The 2022 Rapid React Season

In the 2022 FIRST Robotics Competition season, the Carlson High School Terror Bytes proudly introduced their latest mechanical marvel: Steve 22. Under the dedicated leadership of Coach Trent Begeman, the team built a robot that was not only functional and competitive, but also true to the spirit and humor of our team.

Why “Steve,” you ask? According to one of our quick-witted juniors, the name “was chosen to strike fear into the hearts of our opponents.” Naturally. If you’ve followed the Terror Bytes for a while, you know our talent for naming robots is as strong as our programming skills—and just as legendary. “Steve” has since joined the pantheon of hilariously named bots that left a mark on and off the field.

Despite lingering COVID-19 protocols and the challenges that came with them, the Terror Bytes pushed forward with grit and determination. Masks, social distancing, and modified pit interactions were still the norm, but that didn’t stop our team from thriving and having fun along the way.
